Amcotts is a parish at the north eastern edge of the Isle of Axholme.  In 1850 the parish of Amcotts was created from part of Althorpe Parish.

Amcotts - 1086 Amecotes (Domesday Book)

Amma - persons name

cot - cottage (Old English)

Amma + cot = Amcotts

Meaning - Cottages of a man called Amma
